DAILY MAINTENANCE TUNE CHECKLIST:

Step One (Base Edge Tuning)

  • Unstrap and dry cold/wet skis
  • Put elastics on ski brakes
  • Clean the skis base with Brass Brush
  • Verify base bevel & if concave or convex with True Bar *
  • Base edge polishing (when needed)

Step Two (Side Edge Tuning)

  • Side edge filing with File Guide (when needed)
  • Side edge maintenance with Diamond Guide (120-1000 grit discs)
  • Remove micro burr with gummi stone (when needed)

Step Three (Waxing)

  • Clean base structure with Brass Brush or Fibertex pads
  • Wax the skis • Scrape while warm when using Nanox** Wax
  • Brush & polish with nylon brush when using Nanox Wax • Use three ski straps

* If the base of the ski is not level do not try to sharpen the base or side wall with a file as it will not result in an accurate angle being created.  If the ski base is either edge high (railed) or base high you should get your skis’ bases reground – you will need to go to one of the ski shops which have the sophisticated machines – recommend one of the following shops:

Skis & Bikes, Gates n’ Boards (Barrie) or Sporting Life

** Nanox wax is available through Sidecut (www.sidecut.com) and is suitable for all temperatures and snow conditions.

Base and Side Angle Guidelines

Here are some tips when choosing between 0.5°, 0.7°, and 1° BASE guides: Always start with 0.5, test it, if it’s too aggressive move up to 0.7 or a 1.0 degree guide. Remember you can easily add more base-edge angle but you can’t go from a 1.0 degree bevel back to a 0.5 degree bevel without grinding your skis/board flat again.
