Mountain Safety Supervisor 

Reports to: Operations Manager


The Mountain Safety Supervisor oversees the safety and Risk Management Program at Mansfield Ski Club. Responsibilities includes the supervising of paid patrol, Dispatch, volunteer patrol staff, and others, as assigned. The incumbent must demonstrate a strong commitment to ski area safety and the goals of Mansfield Ski Club. This is achieved through creating a robust team of professionals able to adhere to clear operating procedures. He/she is the first point of contact for any on-snow investigations and often requires a time sensitive solution. The Mountain Safety Supervisor ensures that patrol staff members/volunteers are well trained and informed about their specific responsibilities and duties. The Mountain Safety Supervisor ensures that all logs/forms are completed and filed correctly, ensuring that established process and policy are adhered to.  Attention to detail, concentrating on risk management, safety and liability mitigation are paramount. This and helping foster the positive work environment that MSC is known for.

Job Duties

  • Oversee safe hill operations, terrain park facilities, on-hill events/races.
  • Provide supervision for special events, as assigned.
  • Assist in hiring, mentoring, scheduling, and training patrol staff.
  • Monitor protective equipment/tools and ensure repairs are made as needed.
  • Attend staff meetings and training, as required.
  • Collect, inspect, file all daily logs/forms (electronic or manual) and ensure administrative procedures are complete.
  • Ensure training and attendance records are completed and filed.
  • Monitor member and guest activity to insure a safe on-snow environment at all times.
  • Investigate and respond to accident calls, when deemed necessary for first aid or investigation purposes.
  • Maintain open and active communication with hill Dispatch, ensuring prompt/accurate record keeping.
  • Safe operation of an off-road vehicle i.e snowmobile, utv
  • Perform duties of subordinates when necessary.
  • Upgrade and keep current appropriate certifications, i.e., First Responder (80hr), CSPS, industry safety training, Wilderness First Responder etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Three years’ experience in the ski industry or related.
  • First Responder or equivalent.
  • Knowledge and comprehension of ski area risk management.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Knowledge of pertinent first aid protocols and labour relation practices.
  • Ability to understand the digital landscape, as well as written and oral instructions.
  • Implement a positive approach in public contact and a calm nature in problem solving situations.
  • Proficiency in an alpine discipline


Contract: November 15/22 to on or about April 1/23

40 hours per week (moderate overtime may be required)

Compensation: Commensurate of experience
