Mansfield Ski Club has a rich racing history including multiple members achieving National Team, Provincial Team and SOD team success. Our team is made up of qualified coaches driven to deliver the best programming in Southern Ontario. From our beginner Training Squad programs right through to our Adults, MSC has something to offer every athlete.
When a racer chooses to participate in any additional training or racing days that are outside of their pre-registered program, there is a daily additional fee that is incurred called a “coaching fee”. These fees can be expected for such things as; Invitational events (ex: Mastermind, Gooch Cup, POD Cup, U14/U16 Spring Series, SOD Championships, Provincial and National Championships, CANAMs, Whistler Cup).
Coaching fees are set annually and advertised in the Program Booklet available on the Club website.
In addition to coaching fees, when a coach has to travel and stay out of town for a competition/training their expenses for accommodation, meals and travel will be shared and charged to the participating athletes. This would include, but are not limited to, out of SOD Provincial Championships or National Championships, CANAM Finals, Whistler Cup, USA Snowboard National Championships.
Most race events which a racer attends have a race entry fee which is payable by the participant. Participants of the AOA U12 through U16 SOD Race Series pay their race entry fees directly to Alpine Ontario when they register with AOA prior to the start of the season.
O’Cup and U19 racers pay their fees on a race by race basis – this is done by the MSC Race Administrator and then charged to the family account. This is the same procedure that is used for all age groups attending Invitational events and/or Championships as referred to above.
U8, U10 and NFS races which are hosted at Mansfield (including the Club Championships) do not have any race entry fee associated with them.
Attending a race event may include the following costs: (1) MSC Coaching Fees as set annually, (2) coaching expenses and (3) race entry fees.
Individual Bursaries should be given annually to selected candidates to further their training in ski racing or freestyle as a continuing Mansfield Ski Club member/competitor.
The recipients may choose to use the funds to attend a MSC on-snow camp, a third-party camp or to offset future Race or Freestyle program fees at Mansfield Ski Club.
An individual Bursary should be substantial enough to make a real difference in the athlete’s training.
Recommend individual Bursaries of $1000.00 given annual up to 4 ski athletes selected from second year U12 to U19 candidates and 1 athlete from Freestyle.
Criteria for the Bursary should include current competition results, the athlete’s coach’s assessment, and an athlete’s cover letter.
Individual Bursary recipients to be selected by the Race Committee at the conclusion of the ski season and to be notified that the Bursary is available to them for the upcoming summer, fall and/or next season training opportunities.
At the discretion of the Race Committee more or less than 5 Individual Bursaries may, with cause, be granted in any given year.
To ensure the future ability of the Bursary Fund to continue to support MSC athletes, the amount granted in a given year should become the minimum fundraising target for the following year.
If an athlete from MSC qualifies for an elite or advanced level competition (namely National Championships, CANAM’s, NORAM’s, World Cup, World Championship or Winter Olympics) the Bursary Fund should be used to offset coaching wages and expenses for the athlete. The amount to be determined by the Race Program Manager and approved by the General Manager and Race Committee Chair or some such other mechanism as demonstrates impartiality and accountability.
This would be considered an exceptional use of the Bursary Funds to support an athlete who has achieved exceptional results as a representative of MSC and for whom their coach’s attendance and support for the athlete at the competition is integral to the athlete’s performance at the competition.
All participants of the youth racing programs will receive a race garment (mid layer jacket) during the first week of programming.
